Modders love their Macs (and iPods) so much that they want to paint them, accessorize them, and put them into new cases—making the outside as personalized as their on-screen desktops. Here are some of our favorites. more

I'd love to see Apple incorporate these ideas into their lineup, think different and put their designers to work!

The first thing I thought of when I saw it was "Brazil". Come to find out, that is what it was based on.

Great story. I love to see creative mods. Some of these are more artistic than practical, but they are all really nice to see. I like the wooden iPod. Reminds me of a set of Wooden Bumpers my friends dad made for his old hot rod truck. It It was an old ford with a 426 MOPAR hemi in it. The bumper had the ford insignia routed around so it was actually embossed, and there was some other creative router work done along the edges, but it was really impressive looking. I think he also had wooden door panels made so they looked like old woody doors. It was a piece of artwork yet a practical street, and show rod all in one. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is the Necro Mac painted on the outside of the parts or did they do the soak in alcohol trick to remove the paint on the inside like with the clear G4s and Airport Base Stations, and then re-paint the inside? Very nice job.

No, the necro is not painted on the inside. Its actually a step further on the outside. The Necro was coated in epoxy primer, then sprayed with aerosol adhesive. Paper was then attached to all of the external surfaces. Once the glue and paper were dry, we coated it in lemon juice and used a heat gun to age the paper. After that, all the glyphs and runes were done with nib pens and acrylic inks. the black edging was done with auto paint and an airbrush /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
