Come to Canada for some real "middle of nowhere" -- the polar bears (at least those who have survived climate change so far) are as close to iPod white as bears get, and they could eat black bears or grizzlies for breakfast. The Sierras don't even rate. Actually, the US has far more remote spots, and not so far distant -- Hell's Canyon at the northeastern Oregon-Idaho border comes to mind.
