Now you will be getting posts that say do it before, and after and in-between backup clones...
Well, thanks Doug,
That really cleared things up. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

P
you will find with time, no matter what you do, your Mac seems to be slower than it was the first day you got it.
I do recommend DiskWarrior as a "need to have"
some prefer Tech Tool Pro... not a bad choice there either.. I have both and reach for DW first tho. I really don't think it matters which one, as long as you have and use one.
YASU is great of those weekly routine forced run to help clean up stuff.
your drive...
as your internal is 60, I recommend a partition of 60 for the first and let the rest be "stuff"
Apple's DU will do that for you.
after you have done that, use CCC.
clone the default settings to the 60G partition on your external.
when running DW... just as with Apple's DU, for full use, you must either be booted from the Disk or for a different HD.
so after a clone, run DW on the clone, then boot from it.
after a good clean boot, run DW again on your internal.
now yer set until you are ready to back up again.
when not doing a full clone for backup, you can just drag your new data over to the "extra" part.
and personally, the 60 you used for cloning.. leave alone except to clone to or boot from to repair th einternal.

Thanks M,
I've read many times on this board DW is a pretty popular product to use,
as Doug might say "nuke" likes to spend other peoples money, so I'll go with what does seem to be a majority and purchase DW./forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OP money is the best kind to spend /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I only make recommendations... I ain't writing your check heh heh
anyway, I do believe you will appreciate what DW does for you even if you "think" all is fine and you are running good.
I DW pre-clone.
other than that, if it's still snappy, let it run. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Whoa, sorry there -Peter,
I do have TechTool Pro, and DW. I truly believe you need a directory utility, and my choice would be DW. Guess my point was not running it on a daily/weekly bases. It has been a life saver for many folks, and does help to keep the '0'zeros in check w/ your directory which is a GOOD thing.
You'll sleep better at nite knowing you have a nice clean clone/backup on your new external HD. ::congratz:: It would be nice to see more folks with lots of important data do the same before those things go to La-La land if there is a major melt down w/ their master HD.
[Edit] now if I could only remember where the path is for the old directory that DW leaves behind ::anybody::unsure /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thats what I thought too -Nuke,
But the last time I ran DW v3.0.3 (revision 38) it quit right when it was telling me where it was, running from my clone HD from the LaCie. Awhile back we were helping somebody with DW quiting at the last second, and couldn't find the post. Doesn't really matter since it has already Rebuilt the directory. Just odd... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Doug
it's a known issue.
mine used to "unexpectantly quits" right after it finishes replacing the directory.
I have the fix around somehwhere along with the link here.
it was Rob ( I think ) that posted it.
will looky when I get home this eve and link it for you.
after you do the fix ( with text edit) you won't have anymore problems.

here's the fix
Code:
Quit DiskWarrior 3.0.3
Control click on DiskWarrior 3.0.3 and from the contextual menu select "Show Package Contents"
Locate the "Complete.aiff" sound file - the path is: - DiskWarrior 3.0.3.app -> Contents -> Resources -> Complete.aiff
Rename the "Complete.aiff" sound file "alert Complete.aiff" - then close ALL windows"

Hey -Mark,
Good eye (_~) for the link, and fix by -Dan. I remember now, and its working just fine after the renaming of the .aif file. Now I'll run DW 3x's a day. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I never noticed this before. But since I had just run DW, and 1 error was all in red font. Now when I ran DW, and no errors on the directory it was printed in 'green' no errors in the directory to correct and so on. Anyway, thanks for finding the fix so quickly. The bell even rings again after finishing up.
