Hi all,
I was curious to know if other mac users would consider using a PocketPC rather than a Palm if a conduit were available from Microsoft.

I head up a PocketPC user group here in Redmond and think that having a free conduit would help mac users decide on which PDA they would want to use. I know that Pocketmac is available but it currently lacks a demo version.

Any thoughts?

No thanks. I would use an Apple PDA but not a Microsoft PDA. Don't get me wrong, they are nice and better than ever. But a laptop battery is all I am willing to worry about. I want my PDA to last more than a day.

My coworkers have Casio's and Compaq's and they are always charging them. They don't carry it around as much too due to the weight. And they crash also. Sorry my work PC is all I want to crash. Maybe Microsoft will get it right one day.

Too much in a small package causes issues with the OS. If there was a pocket version of a OSX pda, I would switch from PalmOS.

I do have the beta version of pocketmac and it does not work as smooth as it should. After syncing, there are multiple contacts, you have to sync the files manually, i just dont like it and therefore dont use it. Im hoping Apple will some day come to its senses and come up with a PDA. Mean time , i just use it with my windows laptop.

Yes, I would consider a PocketPC. I miss having sound and movie files on my Palm m505, as I did on my Handspring Prism. A PocketPC would solve the problem, as would a Sony Clie.

Not unless it runs Linux. I won't have MS software on my Mac, why would I run it on a PDA?

No, I am not going to help Microsoft move into new markets with my voting dollars. My money will go to a new device running PalmOS (not necessarily by Palm) once PalmOS 5 is released.

First of all, I definitely think there should be conduits for Pocket PCs on the Mac. We should have the option to use one of the many pocket PC devices if we so choose.

But...I don't think I will be buying one myself for a variety of reasons. For one, I REALLY don't want Microsoft to become the only PDA OS maker. While there are some pretty cool things on the Pocket PC, overall I don't like the OS (don't like Palm that much either, but that is another story).

I would definitely buy an Apple PDA, but I have a feeling that Apple is not in the position to make one at the moment.

Yes, I would. Especially if I could utilize Microsoft Office for Mac on it,such as Outlook Express or Entourage as examples.

Given that Microsoft is attempting to break into the wireless PDA market a la Blackberry and Palm, I think that beating Apple to the punch would be a savvy move in this sector for Microsoft. The early bird gets the worm, as they say.

Until Apple comes out with a huge marketing plan to market their own PDA's like Dell, Sony, and Palm do, I think it would be a VERY WISE idea to include a sync program for PocketPC PDA's. Include it within iSync. Better to please then to push away...

I own a Dell PDA and I am buying a Powerbook this week. So in my case it would be nice to have something better then a damn 69 dollar program like PocketMac to sync all my information to my PDA.

My 2 cents.

Unfortunately I do have to admit that I use a PocketPC, even if they come from redmond those PDAs are just so much more popwerful than their Palm OS counterparts. The only way I'll change is if Apple came up with their own PDA.

There is an app out there that allows you to use a pocket pc with a mac it's called pocketmac. I haven't had a need to use it even though I have a pocket pc. But somepeople say it works well... who knows?

I'd certainly use one - they are just so much more useful than any Palm-based devices I've used or seen. Especially when combined with wireless (I saw a demo of Toshiba's newest model with built in 802.11b and it was amazing - just needs better battery life is all). A wireless PDA with large storage, good handwriting recognition and good desktop application integration would be great for me, but of course, it HAS to work with my TiBook.

I'd also really like to see conduits for Linux based machines, like the Sharp Zaurus 5500 (but the apps also need to mature for embedded Linux).
