i have a flac file but i don't know what to use to play it. is there anyway to convert it to an .m4a file?

I use MacAmp Lite X for playback, but if you want to convert it to something else, try xACT.

there is a program called flacer that converts flac to aif or wav

I've tried just about everything out there for playing and converting files. Hands down this is the best app there is for the Mac:

This little app is fantastic. You have about 20 different audio formats you can convert. And the quality of the convertions are flawless.
Also note the Xact will not work proper in 10.4.7 in .6 it was decent but after the update it craps out alot. Stick with Switch!!!
As far as playing Flac files. Cog, about the best for us MACers.
