I realize this is a Mac gaming forum, but, I trust this question will be answered by my fellow gamers in the spirit intended...
Christmas is coming and I want to get my kids a console. Which one would you choose: XBox 360, Wii or PS3? Most importantly-WHY? Cost is not an issue for me.
Thanks in advance. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Which Console?

Hi happymac
I've always preferred the Nintendo systems IMHO.
It seems to me their selection of games has always been the more for everyone in the family.
I had a Nintendo system years ago. But I only had Tetris. Their selection always seemed to be a little smaller maybe, but it seemed really adequate though.
The specs for the Wii look very appealing too.
Wireless, upgradeable.
Downloads games of the past.
The Nintendo site is an incredible seller.
I've researched a bit on Nintendo, and they go back a long way. Nintendo just is the console I'd purchase. Or a GBA.
And with developers of the Wii including IBM and ATI; Wow! Sounds like a quality, hip system to me.

I'd say it depends on which games you want to play. If you are hardcore about zelda and super smash brothers, obviously you want a wii. If you always loved halo for xbox, then halo 2 on xbox 360 is pretty good too. Or maybe you like driving games like gran turismo that are available only on the playstation system.
I haven't really done much on consoles, but i'd say look at the game selections, and whichever system supports the most games that you enjoy playing, then get that one.

Given that two of the three consoles you've asked about aren't even shipping yet, I think any sort of reasonably educated opinion is still a ways off.
The Xbox 360 can reasonably take the place of a gaming PC, if your tastes run to first person shooters and action games. But the real strength of the system right now is Xbox Live Arcade, which provides you with a ton of "casual" games and network games you can play with other Xbox 360 players.
I know so many people who have bought the Xbox 360 because a "hardcore" game or two caught their eye in the store, and then end up playing Uno all night long online, it's funny.
I'm really looking forward to the Wii, because I think of all the systems that are out or coming out, this is the one that has the best chance of really changing the way that people play with their game systems thanks to its innovative controller. This is the system I'm looking forward to the most. To elaborate on what another poster has said, the strength that Nintendo consoles have long had -- and I don't see this changing with the Wii -- is in "first party" development. That is to say, development by Nintendo-owned studios and teams, creating products like the Zelda and Mario games. Nintendo has a superficial reputation for being a "kid's" console, and while I think that's true to a certain extent, it's also an unfairly limiting view. There are plenty of M-rated games for the Gamecube, for example.
The PS3 is something of a wildcard. I've been unimpressed with the technical demos I've seen at E3 and elsewhere showing what the PS3 has to offer, to be honest. But as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so it'll be hard to say until it's finally here as to how great a system it is. One early indicator, though -- despite the system's high cost, it will come with a Blu-Ray optical drive. If you're considering upgrading your home entertainment system with some form of HD optical player this season, that could put the PS3 in a different light.

Thank you. I guess the chances of scoring the PS or Wii or nil for this season. Am wondering if the technology behind the Wii is sound. Ie, does the wand really work as stated, or, is there a lag. With FPS games, that lag can kill you (literally). In family games it probably would be ok. Will perhaps wait to see and compare after all three are on the market.
