I have a Dual Processor 2Ghz PowerPC G5 running Mac OS 10.4.7
Since about two weeks ago, I have not been able to connect to the iTunes music store, Safari, or SoftwareUpdate.
In iTunes 7 (and when I was running iTunes 6), when trying to connect to the music store, iTunes constantly says "Accessing iTunes Music Store". It never connects. My music library is fine.
In SoftwareUpdate, it "times out" and implies that I am not connected to the internet.
In Safari, no page loads at all.
Although it would seem there is a problem with my internet, I can connect just fine using Firefox (what I'm using right now). The applications don't realize that I am connected to the internet.
This is driving me crazy! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I want to buy music!
Any help? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First thing to try is switching to another user account and trying it from there.
If you do not have another user installed (This is taken from Apple Help):
Quote:

1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
2. If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Click Add (+) and type the user's name.
3. If you don't want to use the short name generated automatically, type a new short name. (Once the account is created, you won't be able to change the short name.)
4. Type the user's password in the Password and Verify boxes.
5. Type a hint to help the user remember the password if they have trouble remembering it at login.
6. Click Parental Controls and select options to determine what the user can do with the computer.

If it works from this account then most likely your internet preferences are damaged.
There is a Donationware application named Preferential Treatment that checks preference files for corruption.

Also check your firewall settings, your browser and iTunes use different ports to connect to the outside.

In case you're not sure, Firewall settings are located in System Preferences > Sharing. Try turning off the firewall altogether and see if that works. There are rules in there that allow iTunes to access the Music Store, etc.

Also if using a DSL/Cable modem with a built in firewall or a router you may have to check there too.

I just had the same problem. ALL my Apple apps that connect to the net (sans iChat) would not get a connection. So I too used Firefox with no problem. I also use Eudora so I was lucky there too. Thanks to your Proxy idea I found my problem was also a strange proxy setting. I have never used a proxy server so I don't know how my settings got changed except for one thing that I did. I had just Uninstalled an old dial up accelerator program from DSLExtreme. After I did that I started having connection problems with my Apple apps. Anyhow my fix was to turn off my Web Proxy which was set to manual and checked. I have NO IDEA how it got that way unless UNinstalling a web acclerator would do it. Hope this can help someone else.
