Nintendo has stated that it's not competing with the Xbox or Playstation. That's probably a little bit of hyperbole, but given the large number of games that are unique to Nintendo I think it's a good move. I know I've seen a half-dozen launch games I want to play, while I've glanced at Xbox once in a while over the past year without seeing a single game I want to play. Those of us who have no use for yet another FPS can't wait for Wii.

I used to dislike Nintendo back in the day because even though the NES was quite a bit inferior to Sega's Master System, it still got all of the attention, even when a game like Double Dragon came out, and the SMS could actually do a decent job at reproducing the arcade game, while the NES had to almost completely alter it to make a playable version.
Now they're the only player that I hope does well... I've got no fondess for MS, and I've never had much love for Sony. Personally, I feel their reputation for quality products is a bit undeserved, having been bitten by a product or two.
I'd be all up for a PS3, because the PS1 and PS2 were resounding successes - I enjoyed using them and the games, but I might rather have Wii to save on the initial outlay (hey - my boy and I are going to want to have a game or three to play on the thing). The PS3's cost triggers this visceral reaction - it'd be great if the HD format war was already fought and won, but I can't be a part of the format war at the beginning. All that and Nintendo paid a good deal of attention to the controllers. Hopefully it pays off and it's as intuitive as they hope.

I feel the same way on many of your points. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
WonderBoy 3 in Monster Land from the SMS is still one of my all time favorites.
I can't wait for the Wii. I preordered mine from a friend's store, so should get it day one. If this thing is even half as much fun as the DS, Nintendo will have struck gold.

Nintendo got all the attention because it had more games that were actually fun. Technical specs mean nothing if the games aren't very good, or there aren't enough of them. That's why the TurboGrafx16 and the Sega Dreamcast failed. They were technically great for their day, but they just didn't have enough good games.
While it's great that SMS could have a faithful version of Double Dragon, that had an audience limited to those that hung out in arcades. Nintendo had mario brothers, zelda, and numerous third party titles that were fun for a wider demographic. That's why it got the attention.

Yeah - that was the argument back in the day... but quantity of games doesn't mean quality games... there were more SMS games that I wanted than I could afford, and I never felt left out because I had the SMS rather than NES. It's almost like talking about the Mac software market: how many word processors are you going to own?
Games like Sonic and Shinobi were great, and Double Dragon was in no way limited to the arcades, provided you had a SMS.

okay, Im a Nintendo Fan boy, so my opinion is a BIT biased, you people are missing some key points. These are, many games will be availale for download to the Wii. from NES to N64 also, it will not just be Nintendo! Sega will be joining in the fun to bring some great games from the past!
