HELP! I'm an attorney who has been using only mac since 1987. I had instructed my paralegal to stop using corel's abandoned wordperfect (version 3.5 enhanced)for mac 5 yrs ago but unfortunately she didn't listen to me. She hated the older versions of word and while wordperfect for mac was indeed a better product at the time, I told her she would cause us problems down the road if she didn't switch. We are now down that road and more than 75% of my firm's form file and work product is in wordperfect. In order for us to convert a wordperfect document to word we must do the following: 1. we must first launch system 9 and then wordperfect and copy the document. 2. Next we have to paste the doc into a program called Textedit. 3. Then we have to copy the textedit doc and only then we can paste the same into word but lose all prior formatting. Our problem is that if we buy the new intel macs we lose the ability to launch system 9 and thus can't launch wordperfect. This truly means we must continue to use older computers until every item in wordperfect is exhaustedly converted this cumbersome way or lose our work product and 1000s of hours of our time. Is there a product that can convert our wordperfect docs in system 10 without opening system 9 and wordperfect first and can it possibly be completed in a batch to save us time.

OK, it took a bit of work, but I have a better solution for you /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Yes, and it's even free. Here's what you need to do...

[*]Download NeoOffice -- follow the bright yellow background and download NeoOffice 2.0 Aqua Beta 3
[*]After you install that, you'll be taken back to the website to download an update. Download and install the update.
[*]Launch NeoOffice and open your WordPerfect documents.
[*]Select File: Save As, and set the file format pop-up to "Word 97/2000/XP" and give the file name.
[*]Open Word 2004, and open the file you just saved.
[/list]That's all there is to it! NeoOffice is free and open source, and does quite a good job at this conversion, at least based on my limited testing.
I made a sample document in WordPerfect 3.5 in Classic which included some text in many fonts, a table, and some graphics. The text and table came through into Word fine. The graphics (made with WordPerfect's graphics tool) did not. I'm not sure what would happen with something like a placed image.
One note -- when you're looking at the document in NeoOffice, the fonts may not look right, depending on which ones your document uses. But when you save and then open in Word, the fonts will be fine.

Although you would have to do it file by file, you can Save As WP files to Rich Text Format (.rtf) which should be able to be opened by Terminal or Word. I believe the formatting will be retained. Simple to try.
Cheers, Tom

Get MacLink Plus ($75 or so from the usual mail order suspects).
It'll batch convert for you.
