Back-up problem

I get the following error message in iTunes when attempting to back-up my music library:
"The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry."
Anyone know what the problem may be?
I am running 10.4.8 on a iMac G5 (iSight)
