I am attempting to setup my first cross platform network. here is how I have my network currently set up:
The cable modem connects to the airport extreme --> 4 laptops (2 mac's and 2 windows) connect wirelessly. I have set up a USB printer so that all the computers can print via the wireless network over the USB port on the airport extreme. In addition I also have a desktop windows computer connected by an ethernet cable directly into the airport. Now I have a USB external HD and what I would like to do is be able to set it up so thatt I can connect the external HD to the desktop and then from the laptop computers access it wirelessly so that I don't have to connect to it physically (which can be a pain if I'm upstairs and then I need to go downstairs.)
Would this be possible... Thanks

possible and very easy.
On the PC, attach the hard drive and go to my computer > right click on the drive. Go to sharing & security and click Share this folder on the network.
Connect to this drive the same as any other file sharing.
