I too plan to wait till Leopard, though temptation is strong as with the exception of the sucky graphics this is nigh-on perfect! (I still love my 12" AlBook though and in truth it works perfectly.) As to the Store, the UK store is back and running. That doesn't necessarily mean that some US-only product won't still be unveiled, but it is unlikely as releases without events are almost always at 8.30am EST.

Depending on what you're using the machine for, though, the suckiness of the graphics is IMO severely overstated. My 1.5GHz Core Solo mini - same GPU and a much weaker CPU - hasn't disappointed me yet. I don't ask it to be a gaming machine, but there's very little overlap between "gaming machine" and "low-end consumer machine" in general.

But it is taking a while to update the store if its just for the macbooks, I think some other updates will arise today.

I got a glossy MB Pro and I love it. The saturated colors and deeper blacks are awesome. The reflections are NOT an issue. I've been using my machine for 3 months in lots of situations (airplanes, hotels, etc.) and never once thought, "gee I wish I had gotten that matte screen" NEVER ONCE. I think its just people who like to whine and can't accept change that have a problem with this.

Apple says the Macbook can take up to 2 GB RAM. Other than dual channel memory considerations, is there any reason why it can't use 3 GB like the MacBook Pro?

What I find most interesting is that it's even more clear with each new introduction that the "middle" model is, by a large margin, the sweet spot. Sweet spot as in by far the best value. 200 bucks more for a slightly bigger HD and black plastic is a rip. 200 less for a combo drive, less memory, slower processor, smaller HD seems less than it should be.

I'll second that. My MB with Glossy screen has caused me zero problems with reflections. Personally I think the pros far outweigh the cons. Brighter colors, darker blacks, everything is more vibrant.
I noticed that the new MB mid range has 20GB more HD and a dual layer 6x drive. Nice. Anyone want to by a White 2.0Ghz MB with 2GB RAM! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Grumble. The longer it takes for the store to come back up, the more time I have to decide I don't really need a new portable this month. Granted my iBook is 5 years old, but I've got a fresh battery and recently replaced the HD with a larger and faster model. For what I do - it's my portable/backup development machine - the only real problem it gives me is that the RAM limit of 640MB means I'm on VM almost by the time I'm done logging in. My impulse-buy window is slowly but surely closing. I'll be into full cost/benefit mode within an hour. I've got a dual processor machine, I've got a portable and I've got an x86. So maybe a DP x86 portable isn't that high on my list after all.

Yeah, it's taking them a while to get that store back up, at least the US one. I'm thinking more and more that something else is in the works. If it's just for these new MBs, I'd love to know what they're doing! Unless they're having some technical glitch with the update.
But I hope it's back up soon so people can order these. I'm sure you're not the only one in the situation you describe.
Edit: and JUST after I posted this it came back up. So far it looks like like just the new MacBooks. Oh well, these are cool. But I had started to get my hopes up for something else.

I like the glossy screen very much.
I have a Dell with a matte screen, and the colors jump out of the Glossy MB screen.
As for reflection, I really have not seen that as a problem.
It's really personal preference...drop into and Apple store and put a MBP and MB side by side. I did and I like the glossy screen and am very happy I went with it.

As with others who have posted, I don't have any real issues with the glossy screen. If possible, I suggest viewing in person yourself before you buy, though. You will get the occasional distracting reflection, but thankfully, it usually just takes a small tweak of screen angle or head angle to make it vanish.
And the colors...it just looks so much nicer than the flat screen.
