I am interested in buying a new macbook with a core 2 duo and am wondering what is better, white or black?

Specification-wise, they are identical, just differ in price. If you do a custom BTO and set them up exactly the same (2GB RAM, 200GB hard drive) the white is $50.00 less then the black. And that price difference, and the colour, are the only differences.
So, all you need to decide is do you want to pay a premium for a black case?

I understand that the specs are the same. But are the black ones easier to keep clean? Does the black color stay better longer?

As far as scratches and actual abrasion go, I'd say the white would win.
If I had to guess in the very long run, regular wear would have the black win.

Well, after you account for the bigger hard drive in teh black one, it is only about 75 bucks more for the extra look, but it is all up to you.
