Is it normal for the trackpad to not respond for 5-10 seconds after clicking on a link? This happens occasionally and is becoming really irritating. This is on my new 15" MacBook Pro 2.33GHz with 3GB RAM.

I gave up on trackpads many years ago - some said it was oil on my fingers (can't change that) so I have used a mouse or ball with my ibook and macbookpro. Now once in a while the arrow just flies around the screen and I need to find it - it keeps me awake.
I have alway used the shipping cover plastic to cover the keyboard when the screen is closed. This prevented the keyboard to be printed on the screen. NOw I see the MBP is shipped with that material covering the keyboard.
The question is: now that I have purchased a plastic cover for the keys will this prevent the problem? I'm afraid to not use the shipping material.

Sorry guys for not being clearer. I meant to say "anything that requires you to use the cursor." The cursor doesn't want to move during these instances. I can still use type and use Expose and Dashboard, but the the cursor won't move until 5-10 seconds after. It seems to be random - Safari, iTunes, Mail, Adium, even in Finder. I can't pin-point it. It drives me crazy! This was no problem with my PB; an app would be working but I can still move the arrow around. Here I have a notebook with almost a GHz more speed, a GB more RAM, and a second core, yet I'm get the spinning beachball. ARG! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I don't think it's Rosetta, since the apps I listed above are for the most part already universal.

Hi
This is certainly not normal. If it is reproducible, you should consider bringing it to an Apple Store for a check-up.
I know it is a very basic and embarrassing question but your fingers are dry / clean when using it, correct?
I'd lastly suggest double checking the settings, and maybe try different ones, in System Preferences for the trackpad.

That was my first thought. I dried my hands off, but the problem still persisted. I then thought it was my trackpad settings, so I adjusted the speed of the tracking... still occurred. Nowm it seems to happen not as often as I mentioned earlier. Maybe it's clearing itself up? I don't really know. I need to stop my the Apple Store at the end of the week anyways so I'll wait 'til then to see if it clears. Thanks for your help

I recall experiencing something like this on a G5 iMac once, and it had to do with some misbehaving HP software that I installed when I got a new printer. You may want to check the Activity Monitor to see if you have some software you installed and forgot about running in the background that periodically hogs the processor intensely.

I just bought a Apple refurbished 15" MacBook Pro 2GHZ 1.5GB RAM from Small Dog. I am having the same issues with my trackpad. Tried the same things with settings. Still have hanging and disappearing cursor as well. When I scroll, the cursor disappears for a few seconds. Clicking by using the trackpad is not very satisfactory, the sensitivity seems to vary. Any good news from the Apple Store?

I just picked up a 15" MacBook Pro... same "annoying" problem. Somewhat unresponsive trackpad. Did a google search, found a solution that worked for me. In Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Trackpad... UNCHECK "Ignore accidental trackpad input". Just make sure your palm (or other fingers) aren't touching the trackpad now, or the cursor will "fly" across the screen as mentioned in previous posts. I've always had that option checked for previous Mac laptops, but by disabling it I no longer have to wait 1-3 seconds for the trackpad to "wake up". Hope this works for you.
