My "Apple Software Update" does not function properly. It opens, seems to make a local check, and stops. A dialog box shows up stating updates are available but there are no updates. The blue run bar only went 1/4th of the way.
I did an update from 10.4 to 10.4.8 and the problem was still with me.
Any questions and/or suggestions?

"Apple Software Update" Not Working

I have the same problem, except I can't even update OS X to 10.4.8. I thought I could fix the problem by bypassing Software Update and just downloading all of the needed updates through Apple's website, but I encounter the following problem. I am able to download the update, but when I begin to install it, I am only able to get to the step where you choose a destination drive. Usually, one would select a drive and the install would continue but, for me, there is no drive icon to select!
If anyone can help us please do!
The problemed machine is a 20" iMac PowerPC G5.
Thanks!

Boot from your install disk/DVD and using DiskUtility on the install disk run the repair disk ( not the repair permissions ) to be sure that the directory for your hard drive is OK or gets repaired.
Then download from the Apple OS X software site the COMBO updater for your Mac and OS. Run the Combo installer.
Be sure to repair permissions ( DiskUtility ) but not from your OS X installer disk after running the COMBO updater.
I have Macaroni plus Cocktail ( inexpensive sharewares ) installed to do all those UNIX repair/maintenace in the background.
