Hi.
I don't know if this is something "normal" that happens with OS X, but thought I'd mention it to find out, as it seemed very strange behaviour to me - at least, the strangest thing I've seen happen since I got this Mac.
I have a 15" MBP Core Duo, 2GHz (from June 2006), running 10.4.8 - haven't done any updates since then. I put it to sleep a couple of nights ago for the first time in about a month, and the next day, it woke up just fine, no weirdness. Last night, I put it to sleep again, but this morning when I opened the lid, nothing happened. While sleeping, it was unplugged, with the mouse disconnected as well, same as last time. I attached the magsafe before opening the lid, upon which it usually wakes up, but this time, it didn't. I plugged the mouse into the USB outlet, still nothing.
I thought I'd leave it awhile, thinking maybe it would come up in a few minutes. But 20 minutes later, the screen was still black and cold. I pressed the power button for about 2 seconds then heard the normal sounds of waking up - the DVD slot check, namely. But instead of the desktop fading into view at it normally does, it was greyed out (barely visible behind a grey haze) and the progress gauge that usually comes up when I adjust the sound or screen brightness from the keyboard appeared and went to about halfway up the gauge before the desktop popped into colour. After about a second, the screen went blue, then black, the spinning rainbow appeared for another 2 seconds, then the desktop appeared again.
That was about an hour ago, and all seems well now.
Is this normal behaviour, and what process is it that makes that happen?
Thanks.
A.

Wake from sleep question

Hi.
Thanks for your response.
No sooner had you replied than Software Update prompted me to install this MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2, which is a bit odd since it never came up on Software Update before, but the download post date is 11/13/06.
It reportedly "fixes several Boot Camp, start up, and wake-from-sleep issues on MacBook Pro computers."
Anyway, it does seem to have fixed the issue.

Hi, there was probably a chance the battery drained below the useable level, this is ikely when the Mac shut itself down right before reaching that level or even worst, lost power before shutting down. This is probably why there was no response from the Mac even after you plugged the magsafe back on. There is a preference in the Options pane in Energy Saver Preferences that could restart your Mac when it loses power before the Mac safely shuts down. It is: "Restart automatically after a power failure". This is the same I believe as the battery losing power before shutdown. Your MBP would auto-restart when you plug the Magsafe back on if the battery drained before it shutdown in computer sleep mode. It is possible the firmware fixed that issue some other way.
