The equipment: Desktop G4 Dual MDD(10.4.8), iBook G4(10.4.8) Airport, Netgear WGT624 v3, HP multifunction printer PSC 1210.
I used to have a Belkin wireless router (802.11b) and was able to print from the iBook to the HP printer without issue. Since I installed the new router I can't print from the iBook via printer sharing. I enabled port forwarding on the router (TCP Ports 631, 515) but no joy. What am I missing?
Everything else: web surfing, email, filesharing VNC, works as it used to.

Port forwarding is for requests from the internet to your local LAN. It has nothing to do with using those ports within your LAN. Unless you want strangers printing on that printer, you should turn off forwarding for those ports.
Which driver were you using before? If the HP driver, it uses USB only, but possibly appletalk - definitely not LPD or IPP. Does the new router support appletalk?

Network printing on OS X only works with a driver written to support network printing. Your PSC driver was written to only use USB (& like I said, maybe appletalk, but definitely Not IP printing). So you will need to use a third party driver. The free one that works with your PSC is hpijs plus ESP ghostscript from:

Another choice is www.printfab.net.

Downloaded & installed ghostscript & the hpijs drivers. Selected the printer in th advanced menu; tried ipp, tried directsocket even tried LPD, the closest I get is the print job "completes" on the iBook but does not actually print.
Thank you for your help so far I feel I'm getting close.

Yes, "it" doesn't accept the setting with the name missing, however I may have misnamed where do I derive the name from or do I just pick something that makes sense? So far all of my doings have been on the client machine (iBook) is there anything on the Desktop I need to worry about? Other than it being on, awake & printer sharing enabled?

I just re-read all these posts and I think I made a wrong assumption in the beginning that screwed up all my answers to you! Can you please confirm whether the printer is connected by USB to a computer or to a print server on the router? (My assumption was a print server on the router...) I suspect we need to start all over here.

Ah! OK
The printer (HP PSC 1210) is connected via USB to a desktop Powermac G4 running 10.4.8 No issues printing from the desktop.
I want to print from my iBook (also running 10.4.8) wirelessly sharing the HP printer (I also have a Canon i960 also connected via USB to the desktop) that I would like to share too.
I used to be able to do this effortlessly when the network was controlled by a Belkin Wireless router.
Belkin died and was replaced with a Netgear WGT 624 v3. Now, no printing from the laptop.
Thanks again for all this!

OK.
Printer Sharing Mac to Mac isn't really affected by a new router - but there's a good possibility that IP addresses changed - IP address of the computer that's sharing the printer is one of the things that's set in Printer Setup (even if you didn't have to type it in). So, have you deleted and re-Added the printer in Printer Setup?
