Apple are going "home, car, pocket"... and something else /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
With iTV, I like the idea of it going along with the AirPort brand. I think AirPort Theater would suffice, if a little long.
Then, as for iPhone, I would agree with giving it the iPod brand. iPod mobile. 'Cell', even thought quite succinct, is not a widely recognised term outside the US.
I think they will phase out the original iPod eventually. I think it will just becoming an umbrella brand, instead. A cheap one, a small one with a screen, and a big-ish one that's got loads of features. Works for me.

...although the "tunes" in iTunes is problematic, since it connotes music.
And "iTunes Store" is having problems selling TV shows and movies because the store name, which contains "Tunes", connotes music? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I bet you the powers that be at Apple regret linking their app and store to music as a genre....

If Apple was introducing a completely new class of product a washing machine, say, or a killer robot a new brand might make more sense.
The world's first killer robot that requires no lengthly setup! No drivers to install or tangles of cords to work out. Just remove from box, press the button and BAM!

No keypads. I think trying to type phone number or IM people on a small keyword is waste of time. the phone will synch with your Mac (or windows). If you want to compose new number, you use the wheel to select number. How many new numbers do you add each day? How many time do you use already recorded phone # ?
If someone calls you, you save his/her name. Done.
I also think the phone will have built-in Video cam. It make sense. All Macs have built-in iSight. You'll be able to see who you are talking to, and also chat with someone who is on iChat and see his/her face.
Being able to speak to someone and see his/her face i think is valuable.
Voice recognition could also be introduced. Apple has some good technology is this area.
VOIP: Talk thru the Internet. This is where it's going. Skype has it. Cisco also.
To succeeed, the phone MUST be more than a phone. I think taking picture with a phone is not appropriate. Use a Digi Cam. you'll have more chance to produce a pic that people can identify. The phone will probably be pricey and not mean for everyone at the beginning. They'll want to test the water and see if it takes off.
being able to read your email from .Mac would also be nice.
Listening to music, why not but you don't want that product to cannibalize the iPod.
The iPhone (or iPod Mobile, or MacPhone with Cheese, whatever it ends up being called) must have a keypad, either the virtual touchpad or real buttons. How often do I dial new numbers on my cell? Often enough that I don't want to mess around with some sort of rotary system to input a number. I'm assuming that if there was no keypad, the number system would be akin to entering your name into the new iPod games with a circular wheel you have to scroll around. The rotary phone died many, many years ago. And, NO, it shouldn't return.
I'm all for it not having a camera at all. I don't understand why it's okay for it to act as a video camera, but not as a still camera. If it's not good enough for still pictures, there's no way it's good enough to act as a webcam.
And if it doesn't play music, the iPhone is DOA. I could see many people looking at the phone, being told it doesn't play music, and walking away muttering, "But it's an iPod and it doesn't play music?"
I sort of want the iPhone to be some sort of iPod add-on like the Radio Remote or Nike kit. That way if you want just Nano capabilites, you snap it onto your iPod Nano and you're done. If you want the iPod's video and games abilites, put it on the iPod and use away. It would make it easier to jump in if all they had to do was buy an accessory instead of basically buying a new iPod. It avoids problems like I have with the Nike kit. I really want to use it, but the 8GB Nano is the same price as the 30GB iPod; 1/4 the storage and less features just to use a different feature. Even if I only bought the $149 version, the math just doesn't work out in my mind.

One of the first things Steve Jobs did when he came back was to kill the Newton project. I doubt Steve would resurrect the Newton product line/name.
The Handwriting capability was awesome (once they got the kinks out).
My last Newton device was the Motorola Marco, which incorporated Wireless email (Radiomail).

iTV = iTunesTV
iTunes is where most of the content will come from, at least for now, right?
For the 'iTV', I like iTuner. Simple, sweet, gets the point across...
I walked into an Apple Store a few months ago, asking where they kept the eyeTV products (i called earlier to confirm they had El Gato's EyeTV Hybrid in stock). The guy looked at me with a quizzical look on his face and said, "Apple won't be releasing the iTV until next year!"
