T key start to retrieve external disc data

hey everyone,
nyubi here so any help will be appreciated
i have an external fire wire hard drive that won't boot
how can I use the T key start up to retrieve the data
the external is 250gig
the powerbook G4 is 80gig
but I have a daisy (2nd) 250 gig external free
any ideas

When you say the drive won't boot, do you mean, literally, that you cannot boot from it? Or, do you mean that the drive does not spool up, and appears dead?
If it won't even spool up, then you are just plain out of luck - sorry, but no key sequence will magically fix death of the drive hardware.
If it will not mount on your desktop, then again, no key sequence will help. You can try running OS X's DiskUtility application from your powerbook and try to repair it. Or run a disk utility such as AlSoft's DiskWarrior from the boot machine and see if it will see the firewire drive and perhaps repair it.

If it's just an external drive, you don't need a "T" key to start it???
You should be able to just plug it in and see it. It should just mount??
We Need more clarification...
