ichat, safari, mail, iweb, ical, address book, itunes, aperture, stickies, Automator, pages, word, excel, OmniOutliner.
In that order. Pretty much ALL running, ALL the time. Yes, I know. But I use them all, all the time, and that's why I use a mac and have as much RAM as I can get my grubby paws on.

I thought I remembered that dock from an article, Rob. That explains why Adium, VersionTracker Pro, and Pando aren't there, right? What four are there?
I keep my Dock pretty minimal. Sure, I access most apps with LaunchBar, however the base set I keep in my Dock permanently are those I also keep open all the time, and I tend to open them with the mouse after I have occasion to restart or logout. They are: Mail, OmniWeb, iTunes, NetNewsWire Lite, Adium, VersionTracker Pro, InCrease, Xtorrent, and MacJournal.

Well, "better" isn't the most accurate term. Last year, during the baseball playoffs, I had to order some tickets off of Tickets.com, and the order wouldn't go through on Safari; it did on IE. So it's situations like that.
But really, it's gotten to the point where I launch it maybe once every three months, so maybe it's time for it to leave the Dock.
Perhaps I keep it there as a reminder that life could always be worse.

My Dock includes Finder, Silverkeeper (which, I suppose I could probably take out, but I'm still messing with the schedule on the thing. I just got my BUHD), Adium, Firefox, Safari (Firefox because my girlfriend often uses my MBP, and prefers it), Mail, Quark, Calc (a better calculator, IMHO), Word, TextEdit, Photoshop, PhotoBooth (because I find it amusing), iPhoto, iTunes, iCal, Address Books, then the spacer followed by my Applications folder, my girlfriend's document folder, my "checkbook" (an Excel file), and the trash can.
Interestingly, I accidentally deleted dashboard from the dock, but the program still runs. Even after I boot up. I'm running dashboard but can't see it at all. I don't know if this is a glich or there by design, but I like it.
Also, my dock is as small as possible as well, but not because I have too many apps in it. Rather, this way I get more screen real estate. I figure I can tell what it is by its icon even at that size.
Just my $0.02

I recently moved to a new computer, and in the chaotic throes of data transferring, I didn't bother to make sure my dock was identical to my new one, so it's a bit smaller than usual:
This is my dock!
Do I use half apps, no. Most of 'em are there just because I just like them!
