Sounds like they wanted to focus on two none-computer based products, and the name change.
I would say that leaves a lot of room for Apple Special Events between now and the ADC.
The gadget looks cool, but in my neck of the woods (zip 49931) we cannot get Cingular. Does this mean Apple may have a regular wide screen ipod/camera for the rest of us? The camera could do with more than 2 mpix, but I guess it is all about bandwidth.

Sorry you were disappointed.
The content of a keynote speech is determined a great deal by the needs of the person giving that speech.
With Apple's astounding success these past few years I think the reality is that Macworld's needs aren't quite as important to Apple as in the past.
I found the information very interesting, and in the mainstream press Apple's getting a lot of "front-page" cover about it's new phone release. What phone manufacturer has received front and center on The New York Times when releasing a new product?

I think because of the price point of the phone, AppleTV in the long run may be the hit of the show. The common man is not interested in a $500 phone (although I would love one). If it was 30GB or better, then it would be a different story. AppleTV at $300 is something the whole family can enjoy.

Rob, I agree with you. Yes, the iPhone is an amazing device. But the truth is, it is NOT for everyone. I'm not saying that any of those other potential products listed would have been for everyone, but I think Leopard new features would have had something to interest just about ANY Mac user out there.
And iLife or iWork updates certainly would hold interest for many people as well. Same with some new Mac hardware- not interesting for all, but would cover a good audience.
Now, I can see the future with the iPhone, but right NOW, I have no interest in it. I'm not a Cingular customer and have no plans to become one any time soon. I also don't need this device, but would have liked a widescreen touch screen iPod. Perhaps the next iPod updates will incorporate the iPhone tech in them. We can hope. Because right now, for as cool as the iPhone is, it simply has limited appeal. It's a "wow! cool! But I can't use it" type of device.
iTV has a somewhat broader interest base if you ask me, and as Rob noted, it got all of 15 minutes of attention today.

iDisagree!
The iPhone is such an extraordinary thing that it deserved the whole talk (AppleTV was just an exercise of setting the price and release date of the iTV announced in September).
It brings up so many issues that introducing anything else (even the Airport Extreme Extreme) would cause skulls to explode.
For example, do you realize that this is the reason that Widgets exist? While they seem like a solution in search of a problem on a desktop computers, they will be very important for iPhone users. Now the release of Dashcode beta a few days ago makes a lot of sense, all of a sudden.
And, did it occur to you that at the same time the word Computer is leaving the company name, the number of OS X "boxes" (and users) is about to increase dramatically? What does this mean for Cocoa developers?
I find it interesting that a lot of the announcements that normally were Keynote-worthy have been pushed off the stage for iPhone (MS Office, Airport Extreme going to 802.11n, new content in iTunes).
If the iPhone UI works in practice like it did in the demo, all makers of handheld devices (PDA's, phones, MP3 players, cameras, etc.) now have a lot of catching up to do because they've suddenly been pwned by Apple, Inc!

Disappointing to say the least. Where is the real iPod Video with a nice wide screen and 100 or 200 GB of storage. Where is a MacBook with a 15" screen (don't need a PRO...just a screen I can read ). Also, I didn't read/see anything related to AppleTV being able to read from an external Hard Drive. Is has a USB port...wonder what thats for? I have lots of videos on an external USB drive I'd love to attach. Does anyone know if this is feasible? I don't have room to plug everything into iTunes on my laptop. I wonder if I can "add to library" in iTunes w/o having the video physically transferred to my MacBook? Off I go. VG
