Now that they are no longer Apple Computer, it might be a good idea to change the name of the show to Appleworld Expo. This would better describe the direction Apple is taking.

The common man is not interested in a $500 phone (although I would love one). If it was 30GB or better, then it would be a different story.
LOL... that's what people said 5 years ago when the iPod (with a 5GB hard drive) was announced for $399.
Every year at this time we get the comments that it's too expensive.
Getting rather predictable that post-key note comments will include "disappointed" and "too expensive". Shows how many prognosticators are off-mark on what consumers really want.

As predicted, Apple ignored the Mac hardware portion of their lineup completely.
iPhones, iPods, TV appliances...who cares! It's all about catering to Joe iPod and Mr. Multimedia these days.
The biggest insult was the fact that it's now Apple Inc. instead of Apple Computer. Might as well change the name to The iPod Company or Hipster United Inc.

Thinking about trying our iWork, but am waiting for 07.
Getting ready to buy a Mini, but am waiting for Core 2.
Want to replace my Power Mac, but the Mac Pro is a tad too expensive.
Want to replace my 23-inch ACD with a 26/27 inch.
So, I have money and am ready to spend, but need something to buy.

P.S. The iPhone is way cool, but I am more of a desktop computer person than a phone person.

as for the gimme just a phone crowd - there will be no just a phones anymore. plus, the reason apple went into phones was the threat to ipods from multi-function phones, not so they could create a neat plain phone for whiners. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It's a keynote, not a Fidel Castro speech. Adding announcements for all those other products would drag it out way too long and dilute the impact of the two primary product announcements...
Agreed. Also, remember that a lot of this is about marketing. If Steve even gave passing mention to all of the other things that Rob wanted to hear about, like upgraded Macs and "iSight Displays", that would have been that many less "Special Events" Apple could have held. Each event (like the Keynote or a stand alone announcement) gets its own bucket of publicity in the mainstream press, which is incredibly valuable. The Beatles coming to iTunes certainly deserves its own event, since it's making just a little bit of history on two fronts (digital downloads of their songs plus seemingly final peace between the two Apple companies).
I do agree with Rob that the Airport Extreme should have had at least a sentence devoted to it today within the Apple TV section; and it is a little curious that iLife 07 wasn't mentioned since it is usually part of MacWorld SF, but I'll bet we will see a number of announcements over the next few months or even weeks.

Also, they are hoping to get one percent of the cell phone market. Most people pay little to nothing for their cell phone, so I'm hard pressed to see this making the grade. Especially since the available storage really is inadequate for any kind of real video iPod usage, without a lot of hassle. Also - with so potent an operating system installed - how much space is it taking? And so, how much usable space is left - after formatting, OS and "desktop grade" applications?
