The phone is not for sale yet, but Cisco jumps all over it.
Apple has six months to sign a deal or change the phone name.

I knew it was coming. I was very surprised that Apple decided to call it the "iPhone". There are 2 reasons for it.
One is they don't care and they decided to use the name anyway and they'll change it later
Two they have done their homework and Lynksys might have decided to register the iPhone name after apple started using the "i" for their product (iBook, iDVD, itunes etc...).
If this is the case, then Apple might have a point. I don't know if Registered Domain Names work the same way as Register Name or trademark, but if a company business and products really on a "theme" maybe they can protect it.
Steve Jobs introduced the first iMac in 1998. He was named iCEO. I don't remember when iTunes, imovie were released. But i mean, Apple were clearly going to use that name.
Maybe they'll rename it "Apple iPhone" or "actual apple logo iPhone".

Well, I hope Apple wins, right or wrong! There is really no other name that would work for the "iPhone" (apple phone? Yuk, Mac phone? Yuk), though I thought they might be able to use "iFone"
Obvisouly Apple expected this and thinks they can win in court for some reason. Highly paid lawyers can find loopholes /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Cicso didn't want to negotiate, so they will have to pay in court.. remember, Apple took on the Beatles Apple co. and won! Look out Cisco!

I agree. They can still change the name. However, Cisco will probably still ask for damage because of the announcement.

I don't see how they can change it now.. it's too late. Its on the apple website already! And what are they gong to change it to? Macphone? Apple Phone? Yuk. They need iPhone (or maybe iFone).
Hope Apple can win in court, they obviously think they can somehow. They beat the Beatles Apple in court, maybe they can winthis one too. I'm saying it is "right" but I don't think any of these companies are saints, it is dirty business. Cisco should have negotited with Apple somehow..

I'm pretty sure they'll rename it "Apple Phone".
Like Apple TV, just put a logo in front of it.
People can still call it a iPhone.
Apple TV does not sound bad. Apple Phone also sound good.

Actually I think it is called the "Apple iPhone".
http://www.apple.com...logy/specs.html
http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html
I don't see the Apple word in front of the iPod !!
So they'll call it the "Apple iPhone".
Can they get away with that?
I also noticed that photos of the Apple iPhone never show the Back.
the word "iPhone" is not written anywhere on the iPhone photos on the web site.
Could it be a publicity Stunt from Apple? Getting more Media coverage?
The news are going to go over this, more exposure for Apple.
Then Apple will say, OK, we'll call it the Apple iPhone.

Apple and Cisco were in negotiations as recently as Monday, and Cisco sues on Wednesday? Sounds like Cisco had this strategy in mind ever since they started talking with Apple two years ago.

The whole iProduct naming is getting a little old to me.
What about "PodPhone"

I think it needs to be on sale first. After seeing Apples phone UI, People with Cisco phones should sue
Cisco for bad UI. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
