I'm all for iNewt, which is clearly a tribute to the Newton, although it will conjure up images of those salamander creatures, the newts (sharing that lilliputian-themed organic garden 'pod' reference). Newts, pods: Cupertino is starting to sound like a witch's haven, or Middle Earth. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
On 2nd thought, cancel that: I just remembered Newt Gingrich. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"The suit by Cisco against Apple may end up being a marketing boon for both companies, according to Jonathan Hoopes of ThinkEquity Securities.
"Any publicity is good publicity," he said, noting how press reports about the legal spat have been focusing more attention on each company's respective products."
There is NO way such a detailed lawsuit could have been filed so quickly...Both Cisco and Apple planned this from the outset. You can't buy that kind of publicity. Brilliant.

Why introduce something as iTV only to rename it AppleTV?

Yes, it was remaned BUT when Steve announced it he stated that the name was temporary. He made no such statement about the "Apple iPhone", THE NAME IS NOT "iPhone", during the MWSF 07 keynote. BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO!!! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Plus Apple, Inc. feels that they have a good argument to keep the name "Apple iPhone" and that the full name does not infringe on Cisco's mark. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Personally I like xPhone, as has been bandied about, however that mark may be problematic as well for Apple, Inc. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I think business is a lot like politics now days, you have to play dirty to win. Being nice and playing by the rules doesn't always win in the end, sometimes you have to play dirty. I just wish the Democrats would learn to play as dirty as the Republicans... but I guess that's another can of worms
So as much as I would like to support the nice guy, I am hopeing Apple wins--right or wrong!

"The Rules" really are good legal arguments based on codified law & case precedent and manipulation of the grey areas in the law, agreements, etc. It is not a question of being nice but making a case or argument from the details and interpretation of the details.
Look at it this way -- you and I could have a very tight legal agrrement and arrangement between us, yet nothing is airtight and the provisions in the agreement are always open to interpretation (think Microsoft) and if a good argument based on law can be made in a persuasive way then maybe the not-so-nice guy can win. This goes on all the time in the American legal system.

We could go back to the "Knowledge Navigator" touted by former Apple Computer Inc. CEO John Sculley.

I think it's a smart move. Look at all the extra press coverage they will get. Even if they have to change the name, the new name is going to be plastered all over the news. Also, new product releases die quickly in the press. Their product name could get publicized for months if they play it right.
Advice to Apple: As soon as you think you might lose the suit, start leaking the new name for the iPhone to maximize publicity for it as well.
