So I'm a PC Convert Wannabe who is wondering when is the right time to purchase a new iMac. I was waiting to hear something from the MacWorld Expo about upcoming changes to the Mac computers, however, all I keep hearing about is the iPhone - which looks awesome! The questions going through my mind are: Should a person wait for Leopard? Will apple release a new desktop product line this spring? Will apple upgrade the specs on their existing product line this spring? I am not familiar with apple's life cycle so any advice is very appreciated.
How do I plan to use my Mac, you ask? The most demand I plan to put on the system will be gaming. I am a more of a casual gamer than a high-end gamer, however. Out of the box I want to be able to play titles like FEAR and Half Life 2. I have no doubt that the iMac will handle these with ease, but I guess I'm afraid of being left behind in a short period of time if I buy at the wrong time.
Thanks,
El Bruelsio

The answer is simple. If you have the money to splurge, why not get yourself the latest right now.
If not, wait for the OS X 10.5. One could also within reason say that because of the age of the Mac Pro and HD Cinema Displays, that also a design upgrade may be in the works as well around that time. If my memory serves right - Jobs mentioned a release of the new OS in Spring of '07. Second quarter sometime.
Being left behind in the tech race? Hey, you're already behind as soon as you purchase any "new" product. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Let me append another question. How often, if at all, does apple upgrade the specs on their computers? It seems to me that the graphics cards available for the iMacs are only mid-range. Should one expect some more options to be added in the near future, say a 512 MB card?
Thanks,
El Bruelsio

It's hard to find pattern in Apple product announcement ( beside the Macworld expo, and this year, it confused everybody). But if you're a PC user waiting to switch, too much waiting would be masochism /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Hi
Apple seems to try its best to make things unpredictable.
