I can't believe it, but it appears that the most recent review of antivirus software for the Mac is dated Feb. 17 2005, almost two years ago!! Given the current state of debate regarding 'malware' for the Mac, don't you think you're way overdue for an update to that review???
I recently had to help a friend with an infection of a Word macro virus on their Mac. ClamXav was able to find the infected files, but not actually do anything about them, and even after deleting the infected files (using Secure Delete, no less) newly created Word docs also seem to be infected. After more laborious searching online, I've found that I should replace, then lock, the Normal template to prevent the recurrence of this virus.
I know this is not a big problem, but it's certainly annoying, at the very least. And I'd love to know which of the various options for AV software would best handle the job these days!
What say you, MacWorld staffers?
Thanks,
John

Actually, we reviewed three apps in May of 2006:
Norton AntiVirus
ClamX AV
Intego VirusBarrier

And included a round-up of antivirus software in our Protect Your Mac feature from the July 2006 issue.
Which isn't to say that we won't revisit the topic again soon, as things can change in the antiviral world. But yes, Rob is correct -- our most recent reviews are more recent than two years ago.

Hey guys, thanks.
I did a search and it didn't come up with anything newer than that '05 article. Weird.
Just curious, why didn't you review Sophos' Anti-Virus in the more recent review??

Okay, now I see why you stayed away from Sophos. I'm currrently demoing it, so we'll see how it rates for a small home office network...
Thanks again,
John

Sophos was in this roundup:

That search box in the top right works wonders.

And just so everyone knows, the reason it was left out in 2006 is that we were focused on home users, and Sophos no longer sells a single user license.

No need to be a smarta$$. I did a search, as I said, and it turned up nothing newer than 2005! Granted, I only searched for "antivirus", in Reviews, but I was looking for a comparison of the latest offerings, so you'd think that would have shown me anything recent that contained the word "antivirus".
And I started with a Google search that only showed the article from '05 as well.
No need to belittle your clientele...

I just looked at that 'roundup' you linked to; the version of Sophos' offering covered there is something like 3.8, and they're now up to 4.8, so maybe it's time for another test drive?

John:
You may have missed Rob's response a couple posts above yours; the reason we left out Sophos in our latest round of full-length reviews is that the company no longer sells an end-user license.

The search results aren't sorted according to date alone, but rather a combination of date, relevance, and other weighting.
If you search for 'antivirus' and click 'Reviews' as the Information Type, you'll see several results from 2006. Including those found in the roundup I referred to earlier.
Same thing if you search for 'Sophos.'
