Microsoft CEO dampens Vista sales forecast

I bought an HP notebook (CoreDuo 1.73GHz). It came with Vista Home Basic. That dog of an OS is soooo slowwwww that I thought the unit was defective. Nope; it's really that bad. I have an Acer notebook (Sempron 1.8GHz) that is running XP Home; it's five times as fast as that HP. We know that shouldn't be the case, right?
The industry pundits were reviewing Vista as "not that bad" when compared to XP. Well, let me tell you that it really is "that bad".
That dancing monkey, Ballmer, should be shown the door. At least the guy who was in charge of Vista already resigned and left the company; he knew what would happen when it was released and didn't want to hang around for the fallout.

The slowness could also be due in part to preinstalled software or other crap that is put into memory every time you boot. All those major-manufacturer-specific stupid things that run and go into your task tray.
I wouldn't discount Vista. I primarily use macs, but even I plan on buying 1 or 2 copies of Vista. One for my gaming PC, and one for Parallels. I mean, eventually :P
Maybe I'll help bulk up those FY '08 numbers.

As the IT guy here at the company I work for we aren't going to even 'look' at Vista until 2008. The initial expereinces of IT staff has seriously taken the excitement out of upgrading to the latest and greatest MS OS. Seriously we've even diabled GUI functions in XP to get better performance and from what I hear it's worse in Vista. We figure by summer 2008 many of the performance/hardware issues should be resolved, but even then we are not convinced. We'll see.

More smoking of unauthorized substances in Redmond:
1. Lowered prices? When did they reduce the price? Since when is Vista cheaper than XP?
2. Piracy, always with the piracy. Probably half the code in the OS is anti-piracy stuff, and the "emeriging markets" should be no suprise by now.
3. Neither should lack of corporate sales. I deal with some very large companies, and they're not - NOT - early adopters. Many of them still have much Windows 2000 in place. Is he claiming they're just realizing this?
No, it's just not selling, and people won't buy the excuses any more than the operating system. He'd have been better off trying to balme it on lack of drivers from third parties.

So what he's saying is they sell Vista to people who are forced into it either by buying new hardware that comes with it or by giving it to corporate clients who are on a service agreement of some kind (correct me if I have that last part wrong).
What a joke. A company that makes that kind of money can't put together a stellar OS in six years? What a pathetic joke. But they are all billionaires, so good for them.

Isn't that something? I'm primarily a Mac guy, so OS eye-candy is no stranger; but even on my fairly high-end PC I turn off most of the goodies in XP; making it look more like 2000. Just seems silly to wait - even for a fraction of a second - for flashing lites and pretty colors. And while I'm sure some of the architectural stuff in Vista is improved, even MS seems to talk mostly about the special effects.

I don't know about anyone else, but to me this constant harping on software piracy is starting to sound like a lame excuse for crappy products and less than expected sales.
I know piracy is an issue, but they are beating it so hard that at this point, it just seems designed blow smoke over Microsoft's desire to control everything at any cost, with complete disregard for the end user's experience.
In fact, the same could be said for the RIAA and DRM.

Careful; someone might point how much time Apple spent trying to develop a next generation OS before giving up and buying NeXT - and the time they spent pounding THAT into shape.

The Best Buy near me has a special display where you can enjoy the full, complete experience of Vista on their most powerful computer. I couldn't believe how dog slow it was, on the first day, no less. I didn't see anything on it that wasn't Microsoft.
A few days later, I went back to see how the far down the floor display of Vista boxes had went. I was shocked that it was nearly empty. A salesperson came by and asked if I needed help and I said I was amazed at how well they sold through their copies of Vista! He said, 'Oh, if you need a version that's not here, we moved almost all of them into the back, so I can get you whatever you want.'
