Resuming my Windows XP installation under Parallels Beta recently resulted in my first Kernel panic on my new MacBook. What is the best way to proceed afterwards? Permissions? verify?

The first thing to do is not to Panic! We're assuming you restarted and your OSX looks okay but you might have some lingering thoughts about how much the kernel panic smashed your OSX system? You might in addition to the regular stuff want to check out your file system (either boot from an external drive -you know the one you are backing up to...) or go into single user mode and do the usual fsck.
