Philip Michaels thinks Apple's iPhone ad was ideally suited for its Oscar telecast audience. Now if only he could identify all 31 clips... [more]

I think Apple not using "iPhone" or providing a link directly to an iPhone page was probably intentional. Neither Apple nor Cisco own iPhone.com, and if people remembered "iPhone" there might be some confusion. If all you remember is Apple, you got to their site and get links for the iPhone and all the other spiffy products.

I think number 11 looks like Burt Reynolds. In which movie, I haven't a clue...
Like mentioned above, Smart on the shoephone would have been great!

Filling in some of the blanks:
24. Billy Crystal, from "When Harry Met Sally"
25. Cameron Diaz, from "Charlie's Angels"
27. John Travolta, from "A Civil Action"

Indeed, several readers have written me privately to note my inability to recognize Paul Thomas Anderson movies.

Plus, toward the end of that segment you also happen to catch a glimpse of Julianne Moore.

More clarifications:
14. Michael J Fox is probably in the first Back To The Future, because the picture of his girlfriend on his headboard is the actress from the first movie only. Elizabeth Shue came in the second movie.
15. Harrison Ford has hair and tweed from what looks like "The Fugitive", which is also one of the few plots in which his character would actually use a pay phone.

Actually, there are 32 clips to identify. The openning clip before Lucille Ball, zooming onto a ringing phone. Looks like a Hitchcock or film-noir movie, but definitely NOT part of the "I Love Lucy" clip.
Regarding 11, I agree it looks like Burt Reynolds though no idea which film it's from.

The ad was in HD, and I think all the clips were as well, with one or two possible exceptions. I'm pretty sure that even Lucy Ricardo and Betty Rubble were in HD.
