IMovieHD6 Drops Connection

I have struggled for a year with this problem. At random intervals, from a few minutes to 50 minutes, iMovieHD6 will suddenly show the Blue Screen and the message "No Control Device" even though video is still being sent from either a Videocamera or an A/D converter to the G5 2.7GHz PowerPc. These set-ups work fine on my G4 1GHz DP PowerPC running same OS (Tiger) but iMovie5. However, iMovie 5 on G5 doubles the imovie file size(!) but iMovieHD6 does not. Have re-installed iM6 several times and also trashed the preference file, but the results are not improved. Is the problem iMovieHD6, Tiger, or G5?
I am afraid to put iMovie6 on the G4 in case something gets corrupted then I'll have the erratic connection problem on both computers!
Does anyone have any insight. I would sincerely appreciate any help I can get!
