Sometime last year I bought a replacement battery for my Wall Street (goosed up to G4/500 and running OS 9.1). I noticed even on short plane trips that it wouldn't wake from sleep (nor show the charge
level in the lights on the side)
It runs OK from the battery, it just won't wake from sleep if I transport it for any distance.
Last week I bought a wi-fi card for it (Orinoco Wavelan Silver) and decided to go to my
local library 10 minutes away because it has a wi-fit network.
I fully charged the battery (by running it down last night then charging it), put it to sleep this afternoon,
and drove to the library (with the card already inserted). It wouldn't wake up from sleep. Since I hadn't brought the power cord I tried a few times to reset the power and restart, but with no luck.
When I got home I plugged it into the outlet and it started up fine.
Is it just the battery? It was advertised as a WS replacement battery but
has a different part #, M 6385 G/A

Did you try goin back to the old battery? Even if it only keeps a charge for a short time it might provide insight as to whether the new battery is the culprit.

Well, it's been quite a few months since I got the new battery and figure that the old battery has probably run down due to age and disuse.
I shut down and unplugged the PB (instead of putting it to sleep) last night before I went to bed.
Just now I was able to start it up from the (new) battery only (!)
So I can only conclude that for some reason there's not enough charge to wake the PB up from
sleep but there is enough to start it up, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

How's the date and time? Does it get reset to 1957 or some number way in the future like 2038? This sounds to me like your PRAM battery is dead or dying. Has the PRAM battery ever been replaced or is it the orginal one? If its the orginal then the PRAM battery is a likely suspect.
I am currently working on a colleagues Wallstreet. The battery holds a good charge and the laptop works fine on the battery alone. It also goes to sleep and wakes up properly but when I pull the battery and take out the power cord (to work inside it), it won't start up from the battery when I put it back in even though the battery has a full charge. I have to plug in the power cord to get it to start. Once started it works fine from the battery.
Hope this helps.

Date and time is fine and I had the PRAM battery replaced a few years ago.
