Blue-Ray, Smue-Ray.... Why is everyone so giddy about Blue-Ray now days? It's just built upon the same drawbacks as CDs and DVDs... it's storage via moving parts, it's slow compared to a hard drive, etc. Wake me up when we get super-high-density-atomic-no-moving-parts-high-performance-last-forever storage.
Blue Ray will seem totally retarded in a couple years.

Unless DVD SP improves greatly next month, I'm going to switch to Encore. Having all of this Adobe software on the Mac is great news for the consumer. Even if you like Apple's software, having more competition will motivate Apple to not sit our their laurels.
Of course, Apple only offers the entire suite and not individual applications. So I might just switch the whole thing to Adobe, except I like Motion so much.

So, you're going to have yourself frozen in the near future, right? That way when that "super-high-density-atomic-no-moving-parts-high-performance-last-forever storage" medium is invented, they can bring you out of suspended animation. Otherwise, I doubt your corpse will be that receptive to waking...
And you do realize that hard drives also use moving parts, right?

I've had my suspicions for a while now that Final Cut Express' days are near an end. The reentry of P.P. almost seals FCE's fate. I have a bit of sadness about that, as a FCE owner, but I'm excited to see more options finally coming to Macs. Now if we could just get Sony to jump in with a Mac version of Vegas.... But maybe more-is-better only goes so far.
I'm glad to see the return of Premier Pro. Native HDV support is critical. I'll probably end up buying PP in a few months. I'll wait and see how good the MPEG2 codec is, versus what Adobe did on the Windows side by making people spend extra $$$ to buy a decent codec.

Unlike Adobe, whose reaction to having a worthy competitor in the Mac video market was to yank their product (still sorely lacking in feature parity with Adobe's Windows version) and go home sulk (for a while, at any rate), leaving their loyal Mac users high and dry.

Ignore what garbage? I don't think Final Cut Studio is garbage so you must mean Blue Ray???

Oh, you were serious when you asked why everyone was giddy about Blue-ray? You were serious when you stated you wanted solid state storage at the same capacity and price as an optical disc?
Well, gee, I want computers to be free and a million gazillion times faster than they are now with little sticker leads that I put on my forehead so that the computer just accepts my thoughts so I don't have to use a mouse or keyboard. Wake me up when that happens, OK? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Yeah, that sucked. I never could figure out why they could go against Quark but couldn't compete with Apple. It just didn't make sense, especially when you consider the application integration is so compelling and they already had so many Adobe customers on Macs. Maybe they knew Apple was going to switch to Intel and they didn't want to make the huge investment created for PPC only to have to switch to Intel in a couple of years?
Premiere Pro for OS X doesn't have feature parity?

Sorry, but what the * are you talking about exactly? Have you ever SEEN or for that matter USED PP? (No, I do NOT mean previous versions of Premiere for Mac...) Have you ever seen or used VEGAS? Cause if you had and actually knew what you are talking about, then you would never even JOKE about that. Vegas is a huge pile of proprietary poo, sorry. And the only thing PP could possibly have on FCP (or even FCE) is some of the audio functionality (without having to go to an external app) and great workflow with After Effects... otherwise? Sorry, but I've worked with all of the above (including AVID's and Media100's! With FCP since version 1.0) on a daily and professional level for YEARS at a time (altogether almost 20) and I gotta tell ya that anyone who could actually think that any of the above could pose some sort of THREAT to Final Cut (and it's respective market), either has a) zero idea what they are talking about or b) lost a grip on reality or c) never done more that hack their own wedding together on an NLE of sorts.

Thanks for making my point. FCP had (functioning!!) native HDV, what, a YEAR before PP? And it's "critical"... because...? Because you love waiting on on-the-fly i-frame creation while editing? Because you can tell the difference between an HDV film edited natively as opposed to edited via the intermediate codec, as in the case of FCE?
Oh puh-leeze.

Oh yeah. At 799 smackers that seems like a really clever plan, considering what you already have. That strikes you as a smart idea... um, because...?? Mind mentioning the KILLER feature that PP has that actually makes that claim seem even mildly legitimate? Your so critically needed native HDV support maybe? You've checked on what an upgrade to FCP or rather the entire STUDIO would cost you, right? You realize that Encore just barely deserves a SEMI-pro label, yes (speaking of MPEG-2 content creation)?
Apple's and oranges? We think yes.
But you go ahead and show that crap Final Cut what you think of it. Enjoy. :-))))))
I don't see PP's market going beyond the Apple-hating switchers (for whatever reason they're switching) that are to narow-minded and dogmatic to try something new and have never known anything more that Premiere due to their limited little PC mind. Therefore: dead before even released.
And I'm not even going to (or really even NEED to for that matter) mention what Adobe is up against once FCP SIX is out... cause I'm not allowed... ;-P But it sure as hell will make the decision of bringing PP to the Mac seem that much more futile.
I'm all FOR a deversified market, don't get me wrong. I have a few minor, even less major gripes with Final Cut, believe you me. But IF you're gonna go up against a product like Final Cut, then at least TRY to give me more for less, not the other way around... or come up with something else to make me even THINK about switching for longer than a hummingbird needs to flap his wings to the count of one.
