Strangely enough software update can not connect update server even though I'm surfing the net. The OS asks me if I want to open the diagnostics which I do and run but that does not change anything. The diagnostics tells me i'm connect to the net . I've tried trashing the software update preferences and resetting the pram (1 chime). The only way it will connect is if I create another brand new account. Which is a work around but is their anything anyone can think of so I can use the original account. Thanks.

Try deleting either (or both):
/Library/Preferences/com.Apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.Apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
where the tilde character represents the name of the currently-logged-in user's home folder.
These files will be regenerated. After deleting, either restart or logout, then back in. Report back here if the problem persists even after allowing these .plist files to regenerate.
