Hi everyone; 3 quick questions from this novice MAC user.
1.) When I download software- I move the application icon to my HD (Applications), but what are the random icons left on my screen- and can I delete them?
2.) In some of my folders etc. the icons are randomly arranged. Does MAC have a keyboard shortcut to arrange them nicely? (Call me a neat-freak)
3.) Where can I find a list of default keyboard shortcuts for MAC?
Thanks very much for your time!

1. Once you have put the application in your app folder, the remains on the desktop can be trashed.
2. Not sure about this -- in my folders things are automatically arranged alphabetically. Can you explain your question more fully?
3. Here is one link to shortcuts, but I am sure there are more. Maybe try apple support -- knowledge base may have something. Or this: http://davespicks.co...ng/mackeys.html
Welcome to the wonderful world of macs! Glad to have you aboard!

Extra stuff left after installing software probably refers to:
The .dmg file which is downloaded. This is an archive of a virtual disk image.
The the virtual disk that mounts on the Desktop when the .dmg is opened. The computer treats this exactly as if it were a volume on a real physical disk.
The contents of the virtual disk. Moving these contents to your applications folder is treated just like any other movement between different volumes the target volume gets an exact copy, and the source volume (in this case, the virtual disk) retains the original.
A "volume" is a partition of a disk. The default is to have only one partition to a physical disk, in which case the entire disk shows up as one icon on the desktop.
If you paid for and downloaded the .dmg file, save it on a backup disk. Otherwise just trash it.
The virtual disk that mounts on the desktop can be ejected just like any other disk. Or you can first save the contents as backup in lieu of the .dmg file.

Whenever I open a new window I automatically hit Command-2 to change to List view. (Then I laboriously drag the folder to the size and shape I desire and move it to the upper left of my screen.)
For some reason OSX can't keep folder preferences like OS9 (You could set up a folder to a certain view, and every new folder inside it would have the same attributes -- wouldn't that be handy in OSX?)
I suppose there's shareware out there to do this, but I haven't found it yet.
