I've been using Mail 1.2.5 on my iMac G4 with Tiscali as my broadband suppler for the last two and a bit years with no problems. However, since last week I've been unable to send out any emails and I get the following error message:
The outgoing mail server "smtp.tiscali.co.uk" failed to deliver this message. HELO/EHLO with my domain name. You are not me.
Does this error message mean anything to anyone /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Have checked all my settings and all seems to be as it was!
Tiscali gave me MacWorld link as a way to solve my problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

SMTP Mail Server Failed

I have had the same problem on eMac, OS X 10.3, ppp dialup to Tiscali. I discovered that when OS X connects to the Tiscali SMTP server, it sends "EHLO tiscali.co.uk" - which is not right. AFAIK it should send either its local hostname, "My-Computer.local.", or the DNS name attached to the IP address it gets, "ppp-5-71.lond-a-2.access.uk.tiscali.com".
Does anyone know how to get OS X to send the right name in its EHLO line? (I'm quite happy using vi in the Unix shell, if that's what it takes.)
Moray.

My aunt has been having the same problems for the past month on a G4 iMac using OSX 10.2. All tiscali has said is that there Engineers are looking into it. No help whatsoever.
What is more fustrating is that she cannot access her mail through the web page because the box where the e-mails apears is too small.
And not only that but I can't discuss the issue on the tiscali forums because it states I am logged out when I am logged in. It is all rather fustrating.
Has anyone been given a solution?

I have a solution! It is the OS X Mail app sending the wrong thing when it initiates an outgoing mail connection; the solution is to use mail software that sends the correct thing. I just tried it with Thunderbird, from http://www.mozilla.c...US/thunderbird/ and it worked perfectly.
