I am using Carbon Copy Cloner and something happened and it hung up. When I looked at my primary drive it showed a total loss of space! Somewhere I lost about 30 gB. How do you repair a volume problem like this?

Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro or both.

CCC does tell you to backup before proceeding. CCC does take several hours, so are you sure it hung up? Also, why would your primary drive (the one you were copying) lose data? CCC is writing one way only during the copy process. I think something else happened here and it was just pushed by CCC.
You could try fsck -fy or diskwarrior as previous poster suggests.
