While Parallels, Fusion, and CrossOver are good for running Windows apps from within OS X, if you want the complete Windows experience, you need Apple’s Boot Camp. more

I expect that Boot Camp will also support Vista by the time Apple releases OS X 10.5.

I guess Rob didn't have time to annotate this review with information pertaining to the recently released update to BootCamp 1.2: Vista 32bit drivers are now available! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

As long as the file server is accessible via the network, it will be accessible from a Mac or PC, no need to worry about the formatting of the drive. You can also share files via internet if you have a web server or simply via email.

I never thought I would do this, but I installed True Crime NYC for PC, and played it using BootCamp on my MacPro. It was awesome, and an awesome waste of time...

This was a great series. I really enjoyed reading it. I have recommend it to a couple of people interested in Macs, but not yet ready to take the plunge.
I honestly believe that by this time next year a Mac owner will be able to walk into any computer hardware/software department, pick up any piece of hardware or software (Mac, Windows, Lynx) and take it home and run it. Most importantly, run it flawlessly. Definitly better than trying to use it on a Dell. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I have noticed that a lot of children's websites are Windows centric. Thank goodness for Parallels. Now the little tax deduction can listen and watch Elmo on Sesame Workshop online.
Many CompUSA stores are going out of business. The ones near me currently have Windows Vista (all 20 versions /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ) for 40% off. Meaning Vista Basic Full Version is $130 (aprox.) With Bootcamp free and Vista so heavily discounted if you are thinking of running Windows on your Mac for a little more than a hundred dollars it might be worth it to you to give it a try.

Windows-centric websites? I haven't seen any in years. I just listened and watched Elmo on sesameworkshop.org just dandy using Safari on my iBook. These kid's sites mostly use Flash which is cross platform. What problems do you have on a Mac with this or other sites?

HI
Most of the sites I have problems are from WMV / WMA content. Flip4Mac is nice but can't play everything.

In a real estate environment Internet Explorer & windows xp is demanded for many interactive web sites and specific software applications that are designed for Windows & IE only. This sucks but things are how they are, in this context the ability to run windows on a mac is a very good thing. Rob Thanks for all your contributions.

Ah yeah I've read this before. Sounds like ActiveX maybe, which is obsolete and unsafe. Someone should educate the real estate website developers about standards-based coding...

Well the Sesame Street Elmo page I visited earlier was just Flash, and it worked great. I haven't seen any wmp video that won't play in my QT plugin with Flip4Mac, are there examples of some that won't? (Flip4Mac shouldn't be required though, I know...)

there are many places where you cant watch WMV files or streams on a Mac because Flip4Mac doesnt support DRMed WMVs like WMP does on Windows.
Just go to like cartoonnetwork.com then click videos.... requires Flash and WMP10 (because its DRMed)
it simply states "Mac users are not supported" when I asked them about it, a couple months later i finally got a reply back from them indicating that there was no support for the Mac platform, and no plans to change that.
This is more of Microsofts fault, but partially the companies using DRMed WMP knowing its Windows only. If MS would make WMP again for OSX that supports DRMs it would be fine, but its just another attempt of theirs to force people to use Windows, but claim they are nice and helping out Mac users by letting them run WMA and WMV content since they pay Flip4Mac to have a free version available.... purposefully knowing its crippled under the covers.
on some of these sites (including cartoon network) i can get by their error page by spoofing Safari (in debug) to register as IE on Windows... but the videos will not load right.. I'm assuming because of DRM checks.

"$50,- for MacDrive"
A 10,- USB stick works equally well, I just leave mine plugged into the back all the time.
Then again, I hardly use Windows anymore. I upgraded to the disaster that is Vista, but most of the apps I need don't work on it. Funny thing is, Apple finally transitioned to Intel, and I can actually afford to not bother to reinstall XP, as everything windows does has an equal or better OS X counterpart these days (for my purposes anyway, where were these Intel Macs 5 years ago?? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Question: does Boot Camp let you select it any other way than holding down the option key while it starts up? I'm considering replacing one or possibly two of my Windows machines with Mac Minis, but I don't have K, V, or Ms attached to them - I just use Remote Desktop Access.
TIA

The easiest way to share files is via a USB key.
