No matter what I do to resize the Microsft Word 2004 main window, opening a new Word window always overlaps anything (usually the Dock, DragThing or desktop icons) near the bottom of my screen.
Is there a way to force Word to open a new window at a particular size and/or location?

I run Word 2001 in OS 9.2.2.
I assume Word 2004 uses a template system like 2001. If it does, rather than opening UNTITLED documents, open Word's baseline template. In 2001 it is called NORMAL. Make what changes you want here.
Save and quit Word.
Subsequently, when you create new Word documents, whatever you made [as] default in the Normal template will be what you see on screen.
However, all prior Word files will remain as they were unless you import and overwrite old styles with the ones in Normal template.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion.
I've used and changed the normal style for other elements but I don't see any way to change the default WINDOW size. This is not the same as the DOCUMENT size. I don't want my document to be "shorter" than normal -- just the window where I enter text.

I have my Word 2001 so tricked out, no one recognizes it as Word. Included in tricking out are: window size, shape, document magnification, and location on desktop.
If yours cannot be adjusted comparably, recognizing that Word's major advantage is its ability for nearly infinite customizing, you have alternative reasons or rejoinders:
1. You have been singled out for "special treatment";
2. You need to delete Word preferences and existing Normal template and try altering your [default] Normal template again. Deleting the existing Normal template maybe you want to alter to compress it so Word cannot access it, then delete the uncompressed file.

Perhaps you misread my post. I have no problem customizing the normal template with regard to document size. I have not discovered a way to alter the WINDOW size and location. I can change the document size but I dont want to do that. What menu, commands or other means did you use to alter the WINDOW size and location?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, sir. I alter size and location of Normal's window.

There is an exception. Now and then I've needed Word files to open in Outline mode rather than my usual Page mode. I positioned my Outline tool ribbon beneath my main tool ribbon (I use one ribbon as default.) Untitled documents open with their "move" bar directly beneath my default ribbon. Outline tool ribbon partly overlaps the top of the document's window. Once I move the window down the height of the "move" bar, I can toggle away among viewing-working modes. It is a nagging inconvenience.
