Is there a faster, easier way of doing a screen grab than using Apple's "grab," or some F-key setting I can change to get it to work like (UGH) Windows?
Help me, Obi Chris, you're my only hope!
(I'll also start pouring through your old answers and see if you've already tackled this one.)

If you really want it to work like Windows, open your Mac Help and type "screen grab" into the search.
It will list a help doc called "Shortcuts for taking pictures of the screen."
On that list are all the shortcuts, including one that makes it work exactly like Windows: If you press Control in addition to the standard shortcuts, it puts the screen shot on the Clipboard like in Windows, instead of making a file out of it as the Mac does.
If you want to change those shortcuts closer to Windows, use your Keyboard and Mouse preferences where you can edit your keyboard shortcuts.

If you're willing to pay for the privilege, check out Ambrosia's SnapzProX. It's the screen capture tool that all the pros use. There's a version for still-only captures as well as a more expensive version that captures both stills and motion. It's highly configurable and a tool that I depend on each and every day.
Oh, and I'll add one more shortcut to Derick's list. After pressing Shift-Command-4, press the Space Bar. You'll see a camera cursor. Hover this cursor over a specific screen object to highlight it -- a window or menu, for example -- and click the mouse. The highlighted object will be captured.

Seems like this has happened before. Someone posts a screen shot question, someone else posts the link to the help file listing ALL the "secret "shortcuts, and then after that are 27 posts where everybody else mentions their favorite shortcut that was already in the linked list.
