I think its going to, in some cases, reinforce what we have been trying to do and are doing with the mobile Internet. Applications such as multimedia and video and photos and music are going to be done on these devices, he said.

I wonder if they'll ever concentrate on making a phone that one can easily make a call on? How about that instead of crappy music players, T9 text messaging and lousy cameras?
I understand that the iPhone too will have a lot of "features" like many others, but I'd give them all up for a phone with decent reception, quality, and user interface. If I really dream big, maybe the battery life will be good and it won't break either! Sigh...

Lol! That's one of those answers you wish were actually said out loud.
Maybe they could work on the unintuitive, crappy UI. That would be a start. Or how about the phone not freezing up when I'm typing a text message. Or possibly do something about it taking 2 minutes to unload a Java program.

Though everyone here hates Motorola (and I have no reason to disagree since I have never used a Motorola phone), I have to say this:
Hoorayyy Competition! Let the oneupsmanship begin.

If I was Zander and I was asked about the iPhone, I would reply by saying something like I never heard of it, or isn't that a product by Cisco. When these CEOs answer such questions it empowers Apple, and reinforces the notion that other companies should be nervous.
Now do not get me wrong Motorola should be nervous because Apple does not talk about making wickedly cool products before it actually makes them, it first makes them, and then tells you about them.

I must be the only one here that like Motorola cell phones. I've had three of them over the past 10-15 years. The first one I sold to someone that needs its range & power features. My second one is still good. I only replaced it with a newer phone for some nice features that would work if my carrier, Verizon didn't disable almost all of them. I've had good battery time. Unlike Apple products that they do their best to seal & made the battery non-replacable.
I have a friend that has not had very good service since he changed from a Motorola phone to these other brands that everyone says is so much better. If or when my current cell phone develops problems I'll have to decide whether to use my second phone or move on to a newer & better phone. If I stay with feature crippling Verizon, then my decision maybe to go back to my second phone.
I'll continue to use my Motorola cell phone, Palm PDA & 3rd Gen iPod while you other people suffer with all of these other products including the iPhone.
As far as I can see the best part of the iPhone maybe the fact that Apple may have enough clout to allow its features to work without having to pay for each service from your cell phone service providor.
I enjoy using my Motorola G4 PowerMacs & PowerBooks. If I didn't have to run so many Windows programs I wouldn't have purchased my Intel Mac Pro. I could run 4 displays, 4 hard drives & 2 CD/DVD drives in my old G4 PowerMac.
I'm one that is sorry to see Motorola have so much trouble in field that they have been in for a long time.
Give me a Motorola cell phone any day over any other brand.

I guess you are the exception, which is the point.

How can you say anyone can suffer with the iPhone, considering it isn't even out yet? Wishful thinking?
What is your point exactly?

They'd last longer if you stopped throwing them at the wall every time you get frustrated with the lousy UI.

Ain't that the truth!!!

"I must be the only one here that like Motorola cell phones."
It sure looks that way. I've had 4 Moto phones and only one of them was a pleasure to use. Interestingly it was the simplest one of them all. It proved to be the easiest to use. The rest, while nice pieces of hardware, were a pain to use. If Apple doesn't put a hurt on them with the iPhone, somebody else will. Unless they get their act together.

i would usually frown on ad hominem, but I just want to get this part out of the way...
I really feel ed zanders is an angry bald man. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
while were at it...add in steve ballmer. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
steve jobs is almost bald, has a temper, but at least he speaks intelligently, and seems to have rationale to his tantrums. What's with the angry-hair connection? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
the reason moto and the other cell manuf. won't be really able to touch Apple is because apple is creating a new platform, or maybe at least, putting a computing platform into a cell phone format. No one has the hardware/software/interface trio to compete. The only one who will stop apple is apple. Blackberry and moto putting out just before the June iPhone release shows that.

You're lucky. I've just bought one and it broke within 6 hours.
