Ulysses 1.5 may seem surprising to those writers who are used to working with full-featured word processors, tools designed as much for layout as for writing. The best way to look at this program is through the eyes of creative writers and journalists. more

Ulysses 1.5

Just checked Ulysses. What can I say... Few hours ago I also downloaded Scrivener, and Scrivener has much better Full Screen mode with HUD keyword palettes, adjustable page width, background transparency, etc. Somehow it left better impression than Ulysses, although several things I could not understand, especially cards in the cork-board view. I create new cards there but next time I open this view they are gone... Probably have to read Help :-) In my opinion Ulysses needs better toolbar icons - they are to much rectangular, improve "Console" view by adding text width controls, maybe also background transparency. I liked text zoom feature in Scrivener. I could change text size in the main window and in the Full Screen mode. Ulysses can change it only in the preferences, which is not as easy as clicking zoom slider and see the results immediately. When I adjust window width, all columns get changed. I expected middle (Editor) column only to change its width. They could "borrow" some ideas from Merlin and Aperture about GUI.
