Ouch, these are engineers salaries. $600million/4000 workers = $150000/worker. Total benefits from companies like Motorola can be 50 to 100% of workers salaries.

Gee, where did our profits go? Off with the iPhone, that we could have been making if only we'd kept the PPC competitive.

Actually if you read the article, it's 7,500 workers getting laid off (that's [potentially 7000+ families); not that you can make a general assumption calculation above because the hierarchies within the company will be on different salary scales obviously. But at $300 million / 7,500 workers the average is just $40,000, (no doubt the temporary workers will hardly get a look-in to this pot).
Damn, that's depressing news.

I don't think that's very appropriate dude, considering it's the ordinary workers and their families who will suffer, so a flippant remark and a smirk afterwards is, well it speaks for itself.

Motorola made the G4 chip not the G5 which was/is made by IBM. It was also outsourced to Freescale sometime ago as it has pretty much no impact on Motorola's bottom line even when all Macs had G4's.

I love the headline "Search for Missing Profit"
It's like it got up and snuck away. It's hiding from them now, and they need to go search for it. I haven't read the article, but where's the CFO in all of this? Is his neck on the line?

Scratch that, I see the "previous" CFO was replaced. That was most likely a good move, although too late.
