$500 or $600 and a 2 Year activiation plan and only with AT&T ... plus what other required plan features for how many more $$$ every month? I think, No thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing. How much to go online, how much is the plan, the total cost for a mobile phone to use in the way that we saw in the keynote is going to be staggering. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I honestly don't understand negative comments such as this. You don't even know the details of the plan yet you are coming in here with a negative spin. If it is too much for you to spend, don't buy it. I for one have been dreaming of a phone that has all of the features and integration that the iPhone has. Our family will be buying two of them.

I've been with Cingular/AT&T for years. I get a free phone upgrade every two years. Usually, I'd get around to it when I get around to it; could be within weeks of when my anniversary date comes around, could be months if I'm busy.
I'm due for a phone upgrade. BUT this time around, what do I get? A letter from AT&T, the first time ever, saying my phone upgrade "expires" June 23. Hmmm... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...very sleek, classy ads.
Interestingly enough, www.cingular.com now redirects to www.wireless.att.com/home. Goodbye Cingular; hello AT&T (...finally). I'm just surprised they didn't wait until June 29th to rid themselves of the Cingular moniker. I guess they will use that as the date that their retail stores will be completely transitioned. Who knows.

I'm due an upgrade to my phone, too. I've yet to receive one of these letters, but I imagine the same rule will apply to me, as well. I wasn't planning on getting an iPhone in its first iteration, anyway. I've got lots of money invested in Palm pharmacy/drug references & books, so that points me more and more toward a Treo, if I'm going to use a smartphone. Or, I could just get a Bluetooth phone to connect to my TX for internet browsing.
Perhaps an iPhone in another two years, I guess! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Geez, I saw the ad during 60 minutes, and it blew me away. I loved it so much I didn't even notice the "June 29" date. Unfortunately, Steve Jobs is going to have to give me one before I can upgrade to it, but that is, if it works with anything like the ease shown in the Calamari ad, it's worth every penny. (I do wonder if it's real-time, or if it's sped up a bit; and that's got to be Wi-Fi, right? Still, freakin' awesome.

Wow, the ads really convey why the iPhone is not going to be just another smart-phone, but rather despite what many "analysts" say, a monolith for the mobile phone industry.
BTW: Did anyone else notice the addition of a Bluetooth icon in the top right of the status bar? I wonder if Apple/AT&T will allow any other uses of the radio besides connecting to wireless headsets.
Update: Also just noticed the Google Maps application has two new buttons, one with an up and down arrow on the left, and an automobile on the right. Interesting...

I don't see anything I said as negative. Merely expensive. I didn't list the price of the phone in my comment, but I know what it is, and I also have a pretty good idea how much it costs to add a wireless internet plan to my regular phone plan now. For me that is staggering.
In my dreams hope AT&T will have an all uses of iPhone plan that doesn't rival my cable internet bill but I just don't see that happening. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi
I agree about the idiotic price complaints. #1 it's a phone and iPod, so combine the prices of those two, at the least. #2 is if you don't purchase data services, you shouldn't be buying that type of phone <period> As far as general pricing goes, it seems reasonable to me. These are all nationwide plans ( free roaming, free long distance to US customers, Rollover, ... )...
450 anytime minutes, 5,000 weekend, unlimited mobile-to-mobile ( any at&t customer ) minutes = ~$40/month
6,000 anytime minutes, unlimited weekend, unlimited mobile-to-mobile ( any at&t customer ) minutes = ~$200/month
The Smartphone Max w/ Unlimited M2M is ~$35/month + taxes / fees and includes unlimited data ( email, web, ... ) and unlimited messages ( text, IM, picture, ... ).
Plus, one can get Xpress Mail, early nights / weekends, ... but we won't count those. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
