Keynote problems importing Powerpoint presentation

I bought Keynote and haven't even been able to use it. I need to open a Powerpoint presentation I've already created but every time I open it, it looks like it's importing and then the application quits. The Powerpoint is 8.7 MB, filled with graphics (all jpegs). Please help! I need to use this program quickly! thanks...
