Hi, the hard drive in my MacBook (Seagate Momentus 80GB) died and it's with a data recovery company.
However, the guy in Apple Store London said it would be easy for me to get a replacement hard drive and install it.
I found a Western Digital SATA drive that had exactly the same specifications as the Seagate one and bought it, but have two problems:
1. The Western Digital drive is slightly thinner (about 1 or 2mm), because it is not enclosed like the Seagate one was. The Seagate had a thin metal case all the way round; the Western Digital only has this on one side, and not on the other which is exposed. This means the hard drive will wobble inside the machine. I can see there are screw holes to possibly attach a metal casing but I have no idea how to get one.
2. The Seagate drive came with a pull tab for easily removing it from the MacBook. The Western Digital doesn't. I have tried 100 ways of creating one of these myself but without success. Anybody got any suggestions?!
regards

That tab on your old drive is attached to a "slide" by four screws on the sides.
You should have removed this before you sent your drive off and attached it to your new drive.
Contact the people who have your old drive and ask them to remove the slide and send it back to you with the screws.
You can see the process here:
