Not able to download from some websites...?

recently I have been trying to download files/programs, the works but it seems that every time I try it messes up. At first I thought "hey maybe its firefox" because every time I clicked a download from a website (halomods, apple, etc) it owuld bring me to a blank page and say it was loading, one day I left it and half an hour later, nothing. So I tried downloading something in Safari and all it did was crash. any ideas? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No, I am on my home computer. It is not my internet connection because my macbook pro can download fine.
