I totally agree. I was planning to buy the new iMacs for my office. The glossy screen is insane for writers (like us). We want MATTE. Offer a choice Steve. Sheesh. Now, I'll have to switch our plans and possibly stick with PCs (yuck).

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing during the speech. "Oh, they're following Dell and HP into the black and metal look." I'm not necessarily against the new design, but anyone else think it could have been the next Sony Vaio desktop? Feature: Mac people have been buying the cheaper Dell monitors even though they clash with the Macs. Now, the new iMac won't look out of place next to a Dell LCD!

I, for one, am very pleased with the new iMacs, and I'm considering an upgrade to my existing rev A G5 iMac. I went down to the Apple Store last night and had a chance to play around with the unit, and I was very pleased.
I generally like to upgrade once every five or six years or so, but if I can do it cheaply in between I'll take that opportunity. A bump from a 1.8GHz G5 to a 2.0GHz Core Duo; a bump from 160GB HDD to 250; a new keyboard (I love the new ones) and a new Mighty Mouse..I can do all that for about $510 net via Powermax (with the sale back to them of my existing iMac plus iSight). Then add in the savings for iLife and Leopard, which I would have bought anyway, my net is about $300 or so. That's right there where I would want it to be. Possibly less, if I wanted to risk selling on eBay instead of taking the credit at PowerMax.
