well, Control-click, check "show the contents", duplicate the Originals folder and put it somewhere else, so the images can be accessible again...i got a nice result: three duplicated Originals folder spread on the "territory" (some external HD)...32 and something GB...what a waste of space!
early in the morning i've found the final solution: Bridge...and i won't import a single pic in iPhoto anymore ( i've reinstalled version 06, actually)...it's a saddening decision and i'll miss its awesome full screen mode (on my 30" cinema display it's really magic)...

One note about Galleries, it can take a loooooong time to upload them. I have only been able to upload one Gallery at a time without getting errors from iPhoto. We have a lot of albums (63) to turn into Galleries and I've had iPhoto cranking away on them since Thursday.

One thing to keep in mind is that for many of us, our upload and download speeds are vastly different. According to the test I just took at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ I can download about 10 times faster than I can upload.
So, if you are going to do an upload, be prepared to go get a cup of coffee, walk the dog, or spend more time with yoru family.

I cannot even copy the images from the memory card in Finder with iPhoto 7 installed.
For me the whole iLife 08 is useless, iWeb crashes on upload, iPhoto crashes with one of my cameras, iMovie 7 doesn't even install on my 1,5 years old Powerbook G4 1.67/17". Waste of 99 euros of hard earned cash.

the problems begin when you try to use the contents of the iPhoto library with other applications
This is actually a welcome change to me. Ex-Windows users seem to want to create a million folders to house their images instead of using iPhoto's organization features. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to explain to other people - most of them switchers - to not muck about with the files and folders in the iPhoto library.
If you need to use Photoshop on an image, you can set an external editor in iPhoto's preferences. Or you can drag the images you need to edit out of iPhoto to the desktop (or any other folder) which copies the files. You can then work on and import the copy back to iPhoto when you're done.
Or, of course, if creating the folders yourself works for you, then by all means use Bridge and ditch iPhoto. But for me, the fact that I can rather intuitively sort my images using keywords, events, and albums works a lot better than manually manipulating folders and filenames.

do you mean to tell me that capability isnt there in iPhoto 08? i want that feature.
when i saw the "events" announcement i thought, isnt this just a glorified flim roll?
looks like steve and the iphoto developers have been borrowing lingo from the GTD cult...

Events are not like film rolls. Film rolls deal with when the photos were imported into iPhoto. Events deal with when the picture was taken. If you have a large memory card in your camera, it may contain a few weeks and several "events" worth of photos - why would you want to group them together?
The only part of film rolls I really used is "last film roll." And the new iPhoto still has "Last Import" so I'm happy.

I would have liked to use iPhoto 7 but cannot. iPhoto 7 fails to import images from Sony CyberShot DCS-W80, and takes down Finder with it. iPhoto 6 has no problems with the camera.
I cannot even copy the images from the memory card in Finder with iPhoto 7 installed.
I suggest using a card reader instead of trying to connect directly to the camera. Not only are card readers usually much faster, you never get driver issues like the one you are having.

film rolls however are not limited to certain time costraints when u are dividing. they are fully manual.
so, does iphoto 08 REALLY not have the film roll capability? i may not get life 08 if that is true (cant believe im actually thinking that...)
