It won't let me install without Airport Utility 5.0 but as far as I know, that isn't available for download. Is this really for an Airport Express? If it is, shouldn't I be able to install it without owning an Airport Extreme Base Station.
Maybe I'm missing something.

Okay, I'm not following. I have 3 Airport Expresses at home in a distributed network. But I don't have Airport Utility 5.0 on my Mac. I have Airport Admin Utility and Airport Management Utility. but no Airport Utility 5.0.
So, do my Airport Expresses not need this update? Because, obviously I can't install it!

But that still doesn't indicate where to get "Airport Utility 5.0" and I spent about 20 minutes on apple.com without finding this particular tidbit for download.

You have to extract it manually. I know, stupid. And the 5.0 version of the utility is so much better, I don't know why Apple doesn't have a more streamlined way to do this.
Here it is - and yes it is worth the fuss:

Look at the post from frankiecheezoli
There used to be a post in the Apple support forums that talked about this, now I can only find one referencing the windows version of Airport.
Enjoy!
EDIT: Software update updated my copy of the Airport Admin 5 utility, but when I ran it it claimed there were no updates for my Airport Extreme base station (UFO with no modem/antenna) or Airport Express.
Hmm...

Think of this as an update to the Airport Utility and not an update to the Airport Admin Utility. People that buy the new Extreme base station get the AirPort Utility which is needed to administer those base stations. However, some like me will also have AirPort Express Base Stations too. So one utility can manage both types. If you have an AirPort Express and you DON'T have an NEW Extreme, then the AirPort Admin Utility you already have will do fine.
Yes, the new interface though is so much better. Not sure why Apple doesn't (easily) release the New AirPort Utility to the general public.

As far as I can tell the instructions for getting Airport Utility 5.0 from AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 don't work unless you have it already since Apple seems to have removed that update from their site.
Apple seems to have f'd this up pretty large. They didn't want people without the new extreme base station to use this utility so they're trying to make it harder to use for some reason.
If anyone has a full set of instructions for getting this to work on Airport Express, please post it with a working link to the needed SW.
The following link doesn't work anymore: http://www.apple.com...7001formac.html
This link is still linked from other Apple support pages, so the lameness is pretty high here.

Yup - sorry /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif And I didn't save the 2007-01 file. Shoot - now I wish I would have...
I thought I would be clever and see if I couldn't get to the download through the cached page via Google - nope, they really did a thorough job of removing it /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, they've done it like this because then the new Airport Utility will look like a new feature in 10.5. I got it with my Airport Extreme N, made a copy and then decided to get rid of the N. It works fine administering the other Airport models.

For those struggling to get a hold of this, it's on the new Airport Extreme N install CD. If you don't own this new Airport model then this is not a utility Apple wants you to have. Don't ask me why. Those are just the facts.
