Hi,
I know someone already asked, but I can't find the thread so I apologize for having asked again: what app lets you separate the audio track of a video file and save it as an mp3 file? And, what app lets you download video off of youtube? Would really appreciate any info, and if it's not too much to ask, could you guys please refer some freeware (or really cheap alternatives)? Thanks!

Devlin, you're getting the stock answer: It depends.
If you have max'd out QuickTime (Pro, MP3 Extensions,
Perian), QuickTime will extract the A/V streams. That
assumes those streams are separate in the source file
and not multiplexed together (MUX'd).
There are lots of apps that let you capture YouTube's
videos. A really free one is built into Safari: the Activity
window. Look at this tutorial:
web page
My preference is the freeware SafariStand. With that installed
I just wait until the video has finished loading, then command-click
on it. That captures the FLV (Flash Video) file. Then you get to
figure out how to use the fool thing.
There are way too many video formats for one post to cover.
